Small pods of belugas move along the Svalbard coastline year-round, often near tidewater glaciers and in shallow fjords. Summer expedition cruises out of Longyearbyen regularly spot them, especially on circumnavigations of Spitsbergen. Often seen in mixed-sex groups including large males with distinctive 'melon' foreheads.
