Sierra de Gredos is the classic stronghold of the Iberian ibex, where thousands of Capra pyrenaica victoriae roam granite cirques around Laguna Grande and the Plataforma de Gredos trailhead. Animals are famously habituated to walkers on the AV-931 access road and Circo de Gredos day hikes, making this Spain's most reliable rut-season destination when males clash horns in November. Spring and autumn treks from Hoyos del Espino combine easy commercial access with high-density herds above 1,750 metres on the south face massif.
