Lamar Valley is undisputedly the world's best place to watch wild wolves. Reintroduced from Canada in 1995, Yellowstone now hosts multiple packs whose movements are tracked daily by Wolf Project researchers. In winter, snow forces elk onto open valley floors where wolves hunt in full view, and roadside spotting-scope gatherings form spontaneously when a pack is active. Early mornings between December and February offer the highest sighting rates, with full pack hunts visible from metres off the road.
