Around 200 orcas from the Iceland/Scandinavia population pass through the northerly archipelagos of Scotland in summer, arriving just in time for the seal pup season. Land-based watching from the cliffs of Shetland can deliver multi-hour encounters. A small resident pod also lived in the Hebrides but only two males have been sighted in recent years.
