Península Valdés hosts massive colonies of southern sea lions and southern elephant seals along its long bluffs and pebble beaches. The peninsula is famous worldwide for orca predation — at Punta Norte between February and April, orcas intentionally beach themselves in shallow channels to seize unwary sea lion and elephant seal pups, one of the most extreme predatory behaviours ever documented. Caleta Valdés and Punta Cantor are the main viewing spots, with dramatic cliff-top vantages and Magellanic penguins just inland.
