One of Africa's strongholds for lions, with three of the five largest populations in Tanzania. Calving season in the southern Serengeti (late December to mid-March) draws big cats to vast herds of vulnerable wildebeest calves, offering some of the year's best predator-prey action. The Seronera region in the central Serengeti is the most reliable year-round zone.
