The arid Flinders Ranges in the South Australian outback are the stronghold of the iconic red kangaroo — the largest marsupial on Earth, with males reaching 90 kg and bounding at over 60 km/h. The Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park also hosts yellow-footed rock wallabies. Cooler autumn and winter months (April-September) bring more daytime activity; summer is punishing with 40°C+ temperatures.
