⚠️ Endangered species. Only 500-1,500 Asian elephants survive in Nepal, with most living in the two flagship Terai parks of Chitwan and Bardia. Chitwan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southern Nepal, combines grassland and sal forest habitat and offers reliable elephant sightings alongside greater one-horned rhinos and the occasional Bengal tiger. Bardia, further west and far less visited, is the wilder option — walking safaris with experienced guides allow on-foot tracking of elephants, tigers, and gharials along the Karnali River. Transboundary herds move freely between Bardia and India's Dudhwa National Park. A rare opportunity to combine elephant, tiger, rhino, and sloth bear in a single itinerary. Dry season (October-April) is best.
