Western Uganda is the most reliable and accessible chimpanzee-trekking region in Africa. Kibale National Park — nicknamed the 'Primate Capital of the World' — holds 1,500+ chimps and four habituated communities, offering both 1-hour treks and full-day habituation experiences. Budongo Forest near Murchison Falls, with 800+ chimps in a flat and walkable rainforest, is quieter and often combined with the Murchison Falls big-game safari. The Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park holds a small, isolated community. Permit prices around USD 150-250. Combine easily with mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi for a complete primate itinerary. Dry seasons (June-September and December-February) are best.
