The iconic climax of the migration — the 'greatest show on Earth'. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest plunge into the crocodile-infested Mara River on the Kogatende and Masai Mara sides from late July to September, with lions ambushing along the banks. Once across, herds spread through the northern and central Mara plains and surrounding conservancies for excellent general game viewing through October, before the herds start drifting south. Camps book out 12-18 months in advance for peak crossing months.
