Santa Cruz Highlands are the most practical and defensible place to see Galapagos giant tortoises in the wild, especially on the humid ranches and reserve zones above Puerto Ayora. Tortoises can be seen all year, but the classic wild-viewing window in the highlands is strongest from roughly July to November, when they are especially dependable around grazing and muddy resting areas.
