The global reference for encounters with the sicklefin devil ray (Mobula tarapacana). Groups of 3 to 50+ gather each summer at this seamount 45 nautical miles south of Faial, rising from 1,000 m to a peak at 35 m. The nearby Ambrosio seamount off Santa Maria is a second reliable aggregation site. Heavily weather-dependent day-trip expeditions.
