In May and June, pods travel along the floe edge near Pond Inlet, observed from guided camps set directly on the sea ice; by July and August they disperse into Eclipse Sound and Admiralty Inlet, where expedition ships and Inuit-guided boat trips take over. This is true polar expedition territory, where the reward for remoteness is one of the rarest whale encounters in the world.
